- Mal adds the Advanced Accreditation (Adv Acc) in Conservation Framing to his qualifications, scoring exceptionally high marks in both the written and practical disciplines.
- The only Lincolnshire-based framer to hold both this Adv Acc and its sister qualification in Textile framing.
- Mal is one of only 6 framers in the UK that hold two of the three Adv Acc.

Mal states – "I have for some time written articles and given seminars on conservation framing and thought it was about time I sat the Fine Art Trade Guild’s examination on this subject.  It is important for customers to have confidence that their framer is fully qualified, understands conservation techniques and, of course, employs these techniques with the very best quality materials when framing their artwork to this prestigious level"

Mal's article on Framing Myths explained – Mountboard published in June's Art Business Today gains praise from the Alan Yaffe President of Peterboro Matboards Canada; stating:

- "Being a mountboard manufacturer I am always pleased to read articles such as yours."
- "I have also read a number of articles in North American framing magazines that were totally inaccurate about papermaking and matboard composition which only adds to the confusion."
- "I would like to thank you for your accuracy and for helping to set the record straight on mountboard for framers."

Mal continues to write as a columnist for Picture Business – the next article 'On Top of the World' explains how he uses the Valiani computerised mount cutter to enhance the mount design using an open 'V' groove and text box.

Open 'V' grooves along with deep bevels add an extra dimension to your artwork – ask Mal to demonstrate on your next visit.

See an example of such a mount here.
